| I went to a book store and they had only one book(for the tech exam). What do people recommend as a study guide for the General test? |
|
Also, don't forget that you can practice test online for free here:eHam online practice tests
and here:QRZ online tests also... These have helped me a lot so far, I think. |
|
Some have found the Gordon West study guides easier to study from. (I agree, the Gordon West Extra Material made sense, the ARRL one was so dry that it was a snoozer....)
LINK http://www.w5yi.org/catalog.php?sort=4 BTW the current General Class Test Pool is good until end of June in 2011. 73 and Good Luck! Steve K9ZW BLOG With Varying Frequency - Amateur Radio Ponderings |

There are numerous links on this website
Also, there are podcasts here With this website click on General, then download the power point presentations. (example G0 and QA Btw .ppt) There is one .ppt for each section in the General Class exam. The study material is excellent, at the end of each section they go over the questions. |

Passed my EXTRA last weekend and am recommending Ham Test Online to all who ask. I had the ARRL book, Gordon West's book, free online test simulators but, HamTestOnline is what put me over the top. If someone is REALLY serious about passing the tests, it is well worth the money spent.

Passed the Tech exam last weekend. Tried the general and missed. I ordered and received the ARRL General study guide, and so far it's a HUGE help. The QRZ tests and the PDF guides just don't provide the level of explanation I was looking for/need. The General Exam changes in 2011. Based on what I've seen so far in the general study guide, I went ahead and ordered the ARRL Extra guide as well. A quick glance shows that it's a bit more direct and dry than the General guide, but for me that works. Good luck! P. ETA: Amazon.Com has the ARRL guides for about $17.50 each. Order them both and you get free shipping. |

I used the ARRL's General Class License Manual. Not only does it have all of the Q's and A's, it also explains the theory behind the questions. Study the correct answers only...black out the incorrect answers. I think, maybe, that the test pool might be changing this year around June. You might want to look at that. http://www.arrl.org/catalog/lm/9965.jpg I'll recommend this as well, I'm getting ready to take the General exam and used the ARRL study guide. It is VERY good!! I have the Extra book as well. |

Definitely hamtestonline, especially if you plan on getting your extra. It sure makes things much easier to retain than just the books. I used the following study guides for both my tech and general tests. Picked up both the ARRL and Gordon West books for the extra, but couldnt seem to get the theory down, hamtestonline really helped make it happen.
