I have a Telex Stratus 50 Digital headset. I want to mod it or make a box that I can plug it into to use it with my old Uniden 2020 or another radio. Anyone have any ideas???

Maybe this will help.

Your NC headset uses medium impedence earphones so a small transformer from RS or anywhere with an 8 ohm to several hundred or a thousand ohms should work nicely for the listening half. Low imp to the radio and high to the headset plug.

The microphone at the 3 cond plug is designed for a carbon mike input for an aircraft radio.

The mike requires a small bias and a simple way I've used to adapt that is to run a 9 VDC battery [neg to gnd] thru a 1000 ohm resistor [maybe a little lower] to the ring on the plug, the brass body goes to gnd.

Couple the audio signal at the resistor thru a .01 or .1 mfd disk cap to a 5k pot [one side to gnd, top to your biased mike capacitor and the wiper to the transmit audio input of your Icom.

Should work well and if so, use well filtered 12VDC for the mike bias to eliminate the battery.

Any ??? just ask.

Also, many radios' mic jacks feed voltage from one of the pins back to the mic.

For example, 8 volts from Pin 2 of the 8-pin mic connector of the Icom 718.

5 volts from Pin 6 on the RJ-45 modular plug for the Yaesu FT-897, FT-857.

5 volts from Pin 2 of 8-pin mic connector of many other Yaesu radios.

Check this site for mic wiring:

Cool, Thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll have some questions when I get around to building a box for it.

I've got some GA headsets, so this is relevant to my interests.

I had started a thread a while back regarding this very thing. Here's all I came up with:

http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=10&f=22&t=614228

I've gotten my hands on a few aviation headsets, and I've been
searching for info on how o rig up an adapter. I've already found these
two guides:

Aviation Headset Adapter for HT

Adapting an Aviation Headset to Your PC Sound Card

Now, I'm wondering how I can use the PTT on the headset rather than rigging up an external switch.

Any help would be highly appreciated!
