Hi all,

I hoping you can help me with a question. I've been wondering if the status of my ham license for a couple years now. My problem is the thought always passes before I get around to it. So here it is!

My dad was big time in ham radios when I was a kid and taught me morse code and about radios and I got my Novice license I was about 10 or 11. A year later I got an Technician license. That was years a long time ago. I still remember my call sign but I'm not sure if my license is still vaild? I seem to remember them being good for 10 years. Would I still have my old call sign if I get it renewed? Can I get it renewed?

I know these are really basic questions but I would appreciate the help.

this FCC link,
http://wireless.fcc.gov/services/index.htm?job=licensing&id=amateur

says,
If your license expires, you may apply for renewal of the license for another term during a two-year filing grace period. The application document must be received by the FCC on or before the end of the grace period.

hence, if you are past the 2yr grace period from the date your current (old) license expired, you will have to start from scratch.

Assuming it's been 12 years and you have to retest, if your old call sign has not already been assigned to someone else you can apply for it as a Vanity call sign once get a new license.

Look your callsign up on www.QRZ.com and see if it is still listed to you.
