ARGGGGG !!!
worked great at old QTH,, moved to new house, new internet provider, and nothing....

little more facts, Windows XP, newer 1.2 or 1.6ghz (got it used, but it's a faster one) Windows firewall, AGV anti virus
Old QTH:
1, DSL, static IP addy
2, hard wired w/ CAT cable, used a Linksys router,
3.didn't have to mess with it at all,

New QTH:
same computer, no new firewall/
Does have different router, a Siemens Gigaset SE567. (this is on XYL's computer) I have a Linksys wireless-G adapter connected to my computer.
I run the firewall/router test I get this:

Firewall Test Results: FAIL

The test successfully connected to the EchoLink server on TCP port 5200.  This means that your system's TCP configuration is correct for use with EchoLink.

The tester was unable to communicate over UDP.  If you have Internet security software installed, be sure it is configured to allow EchoLink to access the Internet.  If you have a router or firewall, be sure it is not blocking UDP ports.

There appears to be a router between this computer and the Internet.  A router normally requires special configuration for use with EchoLink.

For more information, click the Help button above, or see the Firewall Solutions page on the EchoLink Web site.

*************************************************************

I have established a static IP addy for my computer, last digit is one number less then before.
I have tried to find the port settings, and found only one place, in the properties of the wireless setting, then TCP/IP properties, put in the 3 ports, 5198, 5199 for the TCP and UDP filtering area..
When I do that,, I get NO internet service.
I have disabled my firewall , disabled virus protection,

AURRGGGG,,,,, I'm getting gray hair.

somewhere, there is a filter or port blocking software button I'm not finding. I think all I have to do is open these ports to allow Echolink to send and RECIEVE information..

When I attempt to connect to local repeater, I can hear my call on it (computer voice) and my screen tells me it's attempting to connect, and after 30 seconds, I get the "can not connect to (repeater) - timed out"

any ideas???????????????????????????

EDIT:
I loaded program onto my laptop to see if it would work, and get same message, so it's something in the software and port setting in router somewhere.
and I can not find the software program for the router, only the generic windows boxes.

Whats probably going on is that the router in question is not set to forward the proper ports to echolink.

+10.

I had to set up my router to allow and/or forward ports for Echolink. There is a FAQ for Echolink that lists the ports. The tricky part is figuring out how your particular router lets you configure the  ports.

Your router is either blocking, or not forwarding the UDP ports that echolink needs.

Under the echoling.org website, go to the FAQ, and there are several pages on routers, and what ports to forward.

thanks guys, and yes i used the portforwarding.com site.
turns out, I had to call my ISP and have them tell me how to open a port on my system, but she also said, she could show me how, but only so far. then if i decide to do it and screw it up, i'd have to call there tech dept and pay them to come out and fix it.

I decided echolink wasn't worth that hassle, but I did get the webpage that shows me how to do it if i ever get the nerve up.
worked great at old QTH, and there DSL..
