Heres a question i don't think we have addressed:

I know there are phone patches made for HF, not used much anymore but they still show up on ebay once in a while.

How can patch a land line phone into my dual band 7800 ?? the question just arouse because my grand daughter called just as I was getting off the local repeater with my wife.

I'll google this also, but thought I'd post it here also.
this will be my quest for the night to see if it's possable without breaking the bank..

would a ham need a multi mode VHF/HF radio with alot more options??

EDIT:
one of the local repeaters in Rochster has a phone patch, but it works opposite of what I want to do.. any ham can access phone patch from a DTMF keypad. (if you know the code, member of their club.)

EDIT 2
found this on the ARRL webpage:
Reverse Autopatch

No unlicensed person may initiate an amateur transmission without the knowledge and approval of the station's control operator. Incoming calls to an autopatch must be answered and screened off the air by the control operator to ensure rule compliance. If an incoming call automatically causes the repeater to transmit, even if it's just a signal tone or notification message, then it is possible for an unlicensed person to initiate a transmission without the control operator's knowledge or approval, which is not permitted. The use of a reverse autopatch is permitted only under very limited conditions. This is not to restrict the Amateur Service unduly, but to protect the character of the service.

so i know it's possable someway.
expect another edit soon if I found more info

EDIT 3:
here's some info, not exactly what I was looking for, but a person, other than a ham can access a repeater. over land line/cell phones:

USING THE REVERSE PHONE PATCH

[bullet] The reverse phone patch is a feature that allows someone to call into the repeater from the telephone. One can check in from distant locations...the office, cellular telephone, etc. It also allows non-hams (family members, friends etc.) to locate members that may be around their radio while on the road, etc. during an emergency. Never conduct business over the remote patch. It should not be given out to everyone you know, only to family members or someone who might need to contact you about an important non-business related matter.

[bullet] Members have often checked into the nets or called in from great distances to say hello. This type of use is very acceptable.

[bullet] All one needs to do is look in the repeater code section for the appropriate repeater, locate the reverse phone number, and call that number over the phone. When the repeater controller answers, enter the 2 digit access code. This will make the controller ring out over the air. If no one answers, hang up and try again.

ANSWERING THE REVERSE PATCH..

[bullet] The reverse patch can be answered by any member who is on the repeater at the time. Look in the repeater code section for the repeater that you are operating and locate the reverse patch answer code. When you hear the repeater “ringing”, enter the code, identify yourself, and say “may I help you?”. When the call is finished, press the patch terminate code and terminate the call. Don’t forget to identify again and say “reverse patch complete”. That’s it!!!
