from page 12 of the manual

Note that the power output and battery life will be much shorter when using Alkaline AA
cells. They should be considered an emergency backup power source only, for this reason.

What's the power output on AA batteries?

i don't think that there will be as big of a difference as the manual insinuates.

OEM NiMH battery pack:
voltage: 7.2Vdc
capacity: 1400mAh

AA battery case equipped with 6 x alkalines:
6 x 1.5Vdc = 9Vdc.
capacity: ranges from 1700 mAh - 3000 mAh

AA battery case equipped with 6 x NiMH's:
6 x 1.2Vdc = 7.2Vdc.
capacity: ranges from 1300 mAh - 2800 mAh

so it would still probably be able to Tx 5 watts on the battery pack?

I can't see from your numbers why they would write that into the manual except maybe to sell more of their rechargable packs...
