Saw a guy selling a bunch of these at yesterday's fun show. Sez here that it operates 138-160 MHz, which means it covers 2m AND the 2m-ish MARS bands. Anyone know if these are decent units?  I think he wanted 160 for one, 300 for two--so the question is really, is it better than, say a VX110...?

Since they were rated as "non-tactical" I never saw one in my Army career.

He also had several PRC77s, some satcom rig I never heard of, and a German tactical handheld (6m?) I also never heard of.

A working PRC-77 will cover 30.00 to 52.95 MHz (Low Channel) and 53.00 to 75.95 MHz (High Channel).

Good batteries are hard to find. You could mount it in a AM-2060 Power Supply and Mounting Tray, but I belive that is a 24 volt system.

The only real interest the PRC127 has for me is that it operates on MARS freqs without being modified.  I could/should have made that clearer.

Drang, I have a couple. They are ok. They dont have have any sub-audible tones, so you can only do carrier squelch.. The wattage is a little on the weak side. The use commonn bk parts so thats a plus.

when you say MARS freq's , are you a MARS member?? or are you looking for a HT to use on PS bands and Ham bands??
I have a new Icom HT that is only like $500 or less and have several banks for ham, police, fire and combination of those.
use it every day for pleasure (ham) and professionally ( cop work).

What is good, that I failed to mention earlier. It has the program ability of a ham radioo with the simplicity of a type accepted portable. also it has no scan feature
