i'm looking at the gigaparts 10% off sale and thinking about picking up an mfj-269 antenna analyzer. i'm a general license holder with a yaesu ft-897d and an ldg at-897. i'm sitting on a postage stamp sized lot, no trees. hopefully i'll be able to sell and move within the next few years. i need something to set up antennas once i decide what will work in my current location. i've read reviews at eham and for the most part they are favorable but i wonder if this is a case where the product does a few things half assed and nothing well. does anyone have any experience and/or opinions about this product? please keep it on about a third grade level as there is a helluva lot more that i don't know than what i do know. |

I also have the 259B and sometimes wish I had 70cm capability. Still pretty sure I wouldn't pay the extra $100 for it though. Would be nice if it could do 222Mhz. . . Anyways, worth its weight in gold I think. Be careful who you lend it to (everyone will want to borrow it) as you WILL have a hard time getting it back LG. |

Antenna analyzers are extremely handy pieces of equipment. I have a cheapie MFJ one that I have to connect to a freq counter for HF, and the super duper Bird graphic display models for VHF/UHF and 800 for work. REALLY liking the specs and capabilities of the Rigexpert AA-200 for HF (.1-200MHz) but it's $500. The graphical display types make antenna adjustments trivially easy and really let you see what is going on with an antenna system. Whether they are really worth the price difference over the MFJ is up to the consumer. There is an interesting looking graphical display model (chinese made) that's new on the market and very inexpensive that covers 100-170 and 400-470. If they made it .1-70 and 100-170 they could own the amateur market at the price point they are at. Just looked at the Eham reviews. Wow. Might be worth checking out. |
