| Question for some of you more experienced operators- I have access to surplus Motorola MT1000 portable radios on 46.XX frequency bands, radios are 6 channels. Can these be easily and economically retuned to work in the 50.XX Mhz bandwidth? Also have 3 Motorola mobile radios, 60 watt Maxtrac's in the same frequency range, same question. Or, should I just not bother with them???? Thanks for any insight you can offer. |
I know the MAXTRAC's can be used on the armature bands, however it depends on their model numbers. I dont know anything about the MT1000 but a google search should find your info. I'm using a GM300 RADIUS ( motorola ) on my IRLP node with great success. If you google the model number of the motorola radio you should receive lots of info from ham websites on how to modify them. The motorola's require an old computer program to change their settings and the GM300's require a serial port level converter ( power ) so you dont fry their circuits inside, as they require a voltage step-down. The computer program is so old, it wont run on my 1gig computer system. I had to break out an old 486x as the newer computer was too fast for it. |
