For those who are wondering or thinking about getting into Ham Radio for comm's, I encourage you to come to Field Day this month. It will be the 28th and 29th. You can see how to setup emergency comm's using batteries, generator's etc. You can even participate and get on the air if you want. Go to www.arrl.org and check where a local club is near you and get in touch with them and find out where they are going to be setting up. |

I can't wait for Field Day!! We'll be operating out of my camp in the northern part of Maine...in the middle of nowhere actually. All battery for most of the day then we'll switch to a generator. Currently there is a G5RV ready to go and we'll probably put up a 20M dipole for some PSK work. Of course the BBQ will be running and I'll need a few micro brews to help keep my voice in top shape. Hopefully the fire pit doesn't melt the G5RV....as was almost the case last year Currently the rig list includes a Yaesu FT-857D, Kenwood TS-130S, and an Elecraft K2. If you've never been to a field day event they are very fun and will give you a great idea what ham radio can give you for capabilities. Most sites will have GOTA (get on the air) stations setup that will allow unlicensed operators to take the rigs for a spin. Hope to hear some of you on the air!! |
| You should do a software defined radio kit. I just picked up the SoftRock RXTX 6.2. I'm hoping to get started on it this week. We'll have to see. I have a lot of images to go through for the wedding I shot Sat but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. My Friday portrait client just canceled so that gives me some free time. |
