Does anyone know how to read this Maximum Usable Frequency map?

The image is so dang small its hard to really see whats going on.

Try this one. It's mainly NVIS but interesting still.

There are some propagation programs as well (haven't used them).

You bet. Just a quick rule of thumb, 75/80m is almost always good for NVIS and 40m usually is.

I primarily use VOAProp. Very simple to use. A much more complete (and complex) system is VOACAP. The latter requires more data entry on the user's part.
