Looking at this reel for a catfish rig and general purpose heavier freshwater rig. Don't really need to go much heavier for my needs and not looking at going much higher in price. Plan on fishing Mississippi from around Sabula down to Muscatine, maybe a bit more north or south on occasion. Have too many things to take care of on the boat I am setting up to put a lot into the rig right now. Just looking for a decent reel to catch some bigger cats and some other larger species, hopefully. Anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks in advance.

Lots of people in my area are drawn to them due to them being priced lower than the battle 2 reels. I have seen many more Fierce reels broken after a year of decent use than I have ever seen Battle reels broken. Just my two cents, but I'd spend the extra and get the Battle.

I just bought one of those last week........haven't had time to try it yet.
A few months ago i bought a 10' surf rod and the Penn will go on that.We just today moved out RV to Weiss lake and I hope to break the outfit in with some big blue cats.

Have 4 of them on my surf rods.     My first one will be starting its 4th season soon.    Maint = washing it down and re-lubing after each trip in the salt.       I don't have anything bad to say about them

I don't have the 6000 but do have two of the 4000 series.
My first had the reel handle snap a few months after buying it and rather deal with the warranty crap I just ordered the new part for $21.
I have had no issues with either except for what I mentioned.
I only use them for salt water fishing.

The 6000 is what I use as well.. Very reliable and can handle long runs..
