Mount the reel to your pole.

Feed your line down through the guides.

Once the line is at the reel feed the line through the center of the line guide (the thing that moves back and forth when you turn the handle)

Give yourself enough slack and tie this knot around the center of the spool.

You're going to have to feed the first few revolutions by holding the knot on the spool with your hand.

Once you get enough line on the spool and the knot is no longer spinning continue to reel in the amount of line that you want.

I've found that you want to put a bit of tension on the line as you reel it in. Something a simple as pinching the line with your fingers as you reel it in.
