| the home built ones are the best because you can control what you want them to do. i would carry-on your reels and use the tubes for the rods. read the reviews on any outfitters website, there are very few store bought cases that get decent reviews. plano has one of the best i have read but they are also expensive. i would look into the pvc route. odds are someone has perfected it somewhere. i too am looking into this. my need has changed because of canceled plans but i am still interested for future travel. |

I built my own out of 4" PVC. It's held up for two trips to Mexico with only minor scuffs and scrapes. I put a bolt and fender washer threw the side of each end and made a strap out of rope. I also check a tackle bag (I use this Calcutta one). I use the tackle bag to carry stuff like sunblock as well. I pack my reels in my carry-on suitcase.
