I picked up an old Johnson Model 80 reel at a garage sale. ($5.00)
I know nothing about them other than it is strange looking.

Took it apart, cleaned and oiled it. Inside is basically a spincaster reel mounted sideways.

Searched the internet and found little info on them.
The info I did find was limited to - introduced in the mid 1950's, mounts under the rod (like a spinning reel) and you depress the casting button with your index finger.
Saw a couple on e-Bay - one posting I found somewhere lists it as a 'fly-fishing' reel which I believe is incorrect.

I mounted it, tried it out and it does work. Freaky as it is.
Anyone have any additional info about this reel?
Questions I have:
Do I have it mounted properly?
It does not seem to have an anti-reverse feature, is this correct?
It does have a slide switch which turns on and off the 'clicker' feature.
Any other info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Nope, I have see them on e-Bay go for $5.00 - $25.00.
(unless that qualifies as a pile of money)
