Not entirely sure what the opening statements you speak of are
But I will say over the last couple of years I've really thought a beefier, more "heavy duty" if you will, kukri type tool would be extremely useful both on the trap line and other activities. If you'd be willing, and are able to take on such a project I'd be more than willing to pay you quite handsomely, or trade with some more tangible goods from the trap line.

DC, I believe you've mentioned you'd like a beaver hat. While I don't currently possess the skill to make a hat, if we could have a book by the end of trapping season I'd provide you with all the garment quality tanned furs of your choosing you and your woman would need to have such hats made. Seems like a fairly reasonable trade to me

Trapshooter, the experiences with your grandson sound awesome. While it seems every Tom Dick and Harry have an electronic caller these days there aren't many who actually know how to use them. Train your boy right, the problem with coyotes is only going to get worse, especially here in the east. A good coyotero who is worth his salt in trapping and calling stands to make ridiculous amounts of money in the coming years. I know of guys who turn salaries that would blow your mind killing coyote around cities. Plus trapping is a dying industry, it's awesome to hear of young folks interested in the game.

mnmiv, happy birthday!

@Coontrapper

Got it done tonight. She couldn't resist the juvenile rabbit distress call. It's the second taken off the small property since deer season started. At least 2 more to go according to the game cams

Well that's good news. The problem seems to be with publishing/IP issues though rather than with getting the book written.

I feel for DC in that he only gets one chance to do this correctly. Once he signs an agreement he is locked in to it "for better or worse." His stated goal was to someday do this (writing) as his primary occupation so the decisions he makes now will have great consequences toward that end.

Selfishly I want want to see a lot more stories in this universe that he created so I'm all for him taking his time now to insure his ducks are all in a row. I'm sure that once he's doing this full time we'll get a lot more and quickly.

I happen to live very close to DC, so I've met him a few times.

His girlfriend took a picture of us; as soon as she sends it to me I'll post it. It's me and him and my oldest son. I was holding the knife Stimpson made.

This past Saturday, we went to a gun show; DC bought a prohibition era shotgun that looks cool.

Afterwards, we ate at a place called Houston's in Addison. His girlfriend is into fine dining and she knows her stuff. I'm not a food snob, but I might become one. The prime rib was beyond words.

I'm getting hungry thinking about it.

The book will really, actually, be released within the next few weeks.

The finalized copy is better than what's been posted.

More to come.

He let me read the finished product. It wasn't done until a few days ago.

Best I can tell, he's past the event horizon.

Yes, please do expand on some of the deltas between the posted and the actual story if DCB will allow you to tease us so.  I'm getting the "Little Kid Near Christmas" feeling here so please convey to the Most Honorable DCB to hurry (at least as fast as won't cause Undue Consequences to his future setup for printing dinero / more (MOAR!) books like TSS!).

I'm going from memory here, but I'll provide what I can.

The story is more refined.

The kid was concerned about his gas mixture sticking and not splashing.

Things to that affect.

The page I posted is one of my favorites.

This asshole likes to rape young girls and act like he's someone. He wears shiny clothes and pretentious boots, and thinks highly of himslef.

But then he gets called to the carpet all in an instant. He ends up face down on a dirty porch, after getting shot in the asshole.

After that he gets spinal shot a bunch of times with his own gun; while sucking dust, bleeding, and smelling the charred remains of his asshole friend.

It's beautiful.

That's all.

Now this is a good idea.

Let's post our favorite scenes from the book.

Mine are:

The gate.   A massive machine...called into motion...it's just such a portending moment in the story.

"In case of no legal controlling authority"  I liked it so much I wrote it on the knife box.  It's getting stamped on every can I make from here on out.

"Did you like my scream, Brian?"  E-tools now get me excited.

Binary finds the map...and center-punches Tim.

"They will move to the corners."

"Not everyone gets to meet a wizard."  True, but it really should be our goal to attract their attention.

I liked all of the action of course but if I had to pick a favorite moment it would be Tony and Sylvia in the car. I loved the slow unraveling of her confidence and the realization of just how much trouble she was in.  Tony was so aristocratic and creepy at the same time.  Those were great updates...

"You are doubtless feeling very sorry for yourself. Your thoughts must
be imagining some fantasy of salvation, some dream of mistaken identity.
You are a senior Justice Department attorney, representing the most
powerful country in the world. You wear a gold Rolex, you drink fine
wine, you stay in the finest hotels. So surely you could not possibly
have found yourself in such a desperate situation. Catastrophes, and
pain, and humiliation, and despair, only happen to other people. Little
people. No. You are wrong. You stand corrected, Sylvia."

When they are all the ultimate breakers of all laws, and when they write laws which are already broken? You have to understand that as our Rulers, and Owners, and False Priests, and Slave-Makers, have freed themselves to be lawless? So they have freed us, to be lawless. They are telling us there is nothing left for us, unless we break our chains. So. We can do anything we want. As they are lawless, we are now lawless. So I don’t think anybody will care anymore, or ever again, for the rest of your life, if you own a weapon of dubious provenance. A weapon, let’s say, manufactured in this house. Make sense?”

And the whole part where Brian is walking around the compound like Charlie in the chocolate factory.

I also noticed, upon going back to grab these quotes, the discussion in here doesn't seem as lively as it once was.

I'm excited again to read this story.  Maybe we'll get a "gift" from the OP in time for Christmas?

One should be very careful attracting the attention of a true wizard, even the ones on your side.  That said, if you survive the meeting, you will likely Learn Something!
