Wanted to see what everyone's opinion was on preserving fish?

I've got the bug to go do some fishing and have the chance to clean out some big ponds of fish ..............

So , my question was the best methods of preserving/storing fish to add to my food preps.

For shtf preps?

Old school would be salt the shit out of it til it's totally dehydrated, pack it in more salt.

Canning is probably better.  But you better be damn good.  Might be better off freezing the fish and eating it over the next several mothns, and use your grocery budget to buy MREs.

I'm tossing in my vote for vacuum packed smoked fish.
At least 12 hours on a salt brine and 6 hours on the smoker.
I just did some this weekend.

How long will it keep?

ETA-without refrigeration.

I thought about this.....I'm curious how long it would last after it was smoked/sealed.

I can't answer that.
I see I didn't mention that after packing it, I toss it in the freezer.
With that said, I have fish I've smoked from years ago and after thawing out it tastes just as good as the day I smoked it.  Maybe even better.  (That whole marriage of flavors concept)

I could always do a little test.  This last batch I smoked was a bit too salty for my tastes.  Maybe I'll leave it somewhere and see what happens and report back.
