Well, my editors (my wife and sister in law!) are in the midst of finding all my mistakes and things unclear. On top of that, I'm working on the third book when my work life will let me. I would've certainly liked to have it out by now. All I can say is 'soon,' which might mean another month or so. I'm looking at different retail pricing, (through me, rather than through Lulu.com), which will make it much more affordable... Thanks--Tom S. |

Hi Tom, I saw Deep Winter over on Amazon.com. They show the publisher as Two Dogs Publishing. I thought you used Lulu? How have sales been for this one? I'm surprised that no "mainstream' publishers have gotten into survival fiction yet. I've pulled everything except for the three chapters that I posted here a few days ago in hopes for some book sales. Take care, Jerry Jmurman |
Two Dogs is the name of our "publishing company". Wife's idea....I've sold probably less than a hundred copies of it, without any real marketing so far. More electronic than hardcopy, with a half-dozen or so autographed. I do need to get off my butt and market, certainly. Right now, I'm recuperating from an appendectomy....so I'll cool my heels a little longer. |

Thanks--I'm healing up pretty well. Tough getting over the anesthesia hang-over...but after a week I'm finally off the pain meds. And I'm back to writing when I can. Working on chapter 8 of Remnant right now...Funny, it's snowing the the story too, just like here..... |

Well, let me tell ya. They cost me about $19 from Lulu, once they're printed and shipped to me. I'm probably going to market them for about $23, plus shipping. If you're interested in that, let me know. That's an autographed copy of course! Tom S. (really not happy with lulu's prices either. grrr.) |

And here I just printed out Deep Winter and starting to print out Shatter... both are the size of a fracking telephone book. If they were autographed and around $25, heck yes I'd be interested... Either of Tom's two books are far better then Rawles "Patriots" and that was around $30 for 350 pages when I bought it in 1999 if I remember correctly. For some reason I just like having a hard copy of a story vs a digital copy stored on the computer. Can't wait for the new one to come out |

I just replied at Lulu. I gotta admit, I had a bit of trouble writing up Deep Winter in a review that did it justice. To me it is simply the very best book on SHTF senarios out there. The first to make me sit down and really think about how prepared I REALLY am. Place like WildSurvive.com and a lot of other forums I belong too have a lot of great information about survival, to I have posted about Deep Winter there. I am waiting on pins and needles for the third volume! |

So its been another month and I wondering whats the ETA on Shatter. I'm asking because I would like to get Deep Winter but if Shatter is going to be out soon then I mine as well get them both from you at the same time. PS Great stories and I'm looking forward to the third book. |
I'm about halfway through edits on Shatter, which has been greatly delayed by my job...dang work world getting in the way again! TS |
Yeah, meat world sucks. :-) |
Personally, I think Tom should finish Remants, I am dying to find what happens next. |
Just ordered my AUTOGRAPHED copy I want 3 toooooooooooooooooooooooooooo |
|
I ordered and received my autographed copy and it was well worth the money. I first read half of the story on the computer and printed out the rest but it sure is handy having the book to read through again. The story is very realistic and the best read I can remember. It would make a great movie. A million Thanks to Tom for writing it! Red |

I should have copies of 'Shatter' for sale direct from me, autographed, available next week. I'm 90% sure that with printing and shipping, I'll be charging $30 per copy...about 10 bucks less than on lulu or amazon. (Deep Winter is about $24, plus shipping, fyi, with the current copies that I have. Not sure what the next round will cost though!) Thanks, all. Tom S. |

Actually, I make less. Let me tell you why I'm doing this. The books are about 700 pages or less each. The original pricing structure for DW was 'cost' of printing at about $18 per copy, with my 'profit' of $5 each. I thought this was pretty fair. (Cheapskate that I am, I have a hard time paying more than that for a book.) I assumed that the books would be 23 and change per copy, if purchased direct from the printer, plus shipping. The distribution package that I bought from the printer changed all of this. I purchased a distribution package where I own the ISBN number, and "I" am the publisher in this scenario. The 'cost' of the book suddenly jumped up to the mid-thirties, plus my four or five bucks per copy. This has something to do with the corporate evil and black magic of book selling to Amazon, Borders, etc., and the fact that they can offer a 'discount' over the 'retail' price. Hogwash, says I. So, I bought a slug of books at my cost, and am selling them direct, for whatever I danged well please. Cost plus four or five bucks a copy to me, plus shipping, generally equals about $30 per copy. Autographed, too. I'm already handling them, signing them doesn't take much time..... Manufacturing, shipping to me, and shipping from me will be the wild card as the economy goes kerflooey. So depending on what things cost me, the prices might fluctuate based on the cost of the shipment that I'm working from. I usually have copies on hand, and base my pricing on what they cost me for the last batch, not the next one. Buy ammo or a nice little can of Hoppe's with the extra. That's what I'd do. Those aren't getting any cheaper either, I note. Tom S. |
