anybody got any tips for wolf hunting?
I'm heading to MT this year and decided to get a wolf tag for the heck of it. I've heard them howling at night where I hunt in past years, and have read that using a coyote call sometimes brings them in since they are territorial. any tips are greatly appreciated. |
| There eye sight is so different from what you might think. They see in a type of inferred / heat or thermal. They see the body heat. You ever watch a dog stare off at the trees and wonder what it is looking at because you don’t see anything. The dog is looking at something on the other side of the trees. Wolfs have a very primitive eye. They don’t see in black and white like a dog but in more like a heat or thermal sight. You will have to be especially quiet, watch your movement. They go more off their since of smell and hearing than sight. How I know I’ve been raising Wolfs and Wolf hybrids for the last 28 years. |

Quoted: Wow lots of goofy mis-information about a wolf, ya if i was op i would not even try to fill the tag. Op find yourself a dead half eatin elk or deer or use your own when you get an elk, you will get one. The best way to find wolves is to hunt something else in a place where they live. You find them where you find them, a sizable amount of luck never hurts either. Happening across them on a carcass or catching them hunting something you just might be hunting also is the way I have seen and killed them. |

Think like a wolf..they are extremely hard to hunt....the ridge lines are their sidewalks, the river valleys are their kitchen, the trees are their bedroom...if they see much human pressure they will live in the trees, only coming out on the edges at night.. they can be called in, best CD I have seen for this is one done by some yuppies up here at Denali national park, they used recording quality equipment to record a pack of wolves in the park...
I can't find it online, it was made back around 2000, but I did find this one, and it should be about as good... http://www.everythingwolf.com/shop/productdetails.aspx?ProductID=886 |

Mrs Diggerwolf would never allow another one... |
