Hello,
I am in the market for a laser range finder to use for elk hunting and target shooting.  The Leupold 1000 (ballistic something) is going on sale at Bass pro on the 15th for 100 off, was thinking of picking one up.  Any suggestions?

Sorry if this is in the incorrect forum, it seemed to me like the most appropriate place. Thanks

That's what I have and it worked very well in Montana.
The price is reasonable also.

I don't have the Leupold, have an older Bushnell 600.  The bushnell works and so I can't justify the $300 for a new one, but I would buy the Leupold today.  The red dot in the Leupold will make a big different in low light.  My old bushnell has a black crosshair that is difficult to see in low light.

Leuy has a 1200 model out, so the RX-1000i TDR is $100 off. I just bough one from Cabelas for $300, normaly $400.

Fingers crossed it holds up well.

I went through this just a few weeks ago.  For me, it was between the Leupold 1000 and the Leica 1000.  When the Leupold went on sale for $299, I decided to get that one.  I really like it so far.  I figured I could always let one of my boys use it or sell it if I decide to get the Leica later.

I spent last weekend riding around the National Forest.  My new leupold 1000 will reliably range anything short of 600, hit or miss to 700, and got no returns beyond 700.

I really like my Zeiss. It took the place of my binoculars and gave me a rangefinder. Good out to ranges of 1300 yards.

I have the Vortex Rangfinder. Only one I have ever owned, so can't really compare. Works very well, easy controls, bright viewfnder. Has the angle calculator.

I have an older Leupy RX-1000i that I hate. It has never ranged anything over 520ish yards, even taped to a tripod.

I also have a Swarovski that is great, accurate, and repeatable.

+1 here. Dad has a Leupold and I bought the Vortex last year. I like the Vortex a lot better. I only really use it for bow hunting and shooting out to about 350-400 yards, so I can't give any comment on the upper end of the range.
