my steiner predators are worn out after about ten years. had them rebuilt once, carried them on hunts, even took them to Nepal with me. yesterday lost the entire cap assembly on one side wearing them at a tactical match (I was the tactical shooter, used them to spot for the precision shooter)

time for new binos. here are my needs:

-archery, rifle elk hunter, still hunter, black timber
-lots of walking, must be lightweight.
-7x35 should be adequate.

I can field a spotting scope for hunting antelope, etc.

I'm not going to spend the money for Swaroski or like that.

any suggestions?

In the 200-300 range you can get some Minox 10x42's that are as clear as ones that are in the 800-1000 range.  I have Nikon 12x42 Monarch X's ($450) and the Minox are much clearer.

Also the Nikons broke on a hunt where the straps attach to the binos they are made of plastic on the Minox they are made of metal so that wont happen to me again.

How about another pair of Steiners ?

I just recently upgraded to their Military * Marine 8 X 30 's and can't say enough good about them.

I'm biased toward the 'perma-focus' style' , so ...

I also have the Steiner predator in 8x32, they have been great.  About 8 yrs of elk hunting, general surveilance and truck use.
No issues yet, and they have gotten soaked more than once.

I am still using the first pair of Swarovski's I bought in 1978...

Nothing has fallen off of them yet...
