I finally got my first one (after about 6 years) and the first time I've tried bow hunting them as well! One of the best experiences hunting I've ever had as it was with my father who got me into hunting from a very young age(he got his first too) and was after dealing with 6 months of chemotherapy (awesome to be outside in the beautiful Colorado mountains). After killing many deer over the years, I can not believe how much more work it is to process an elk! Damn these things are massive. Here's a pic, not the biggest bull we saw by any stretch but I'm ecstatic

Thanks guys! There was a much bigger bull with him at about 45 yards away (he was chasing mine away) but I got too excited and decided to take the smaller one while I had the chance (this bull was only 20 yards away). I'm very excited for my first elk though and there's always next year for the bigger one!

NICE Six-by you got there - cool.

What arrow/broadhead?  Distance from shot to recovery?  See him go down?

Don't remember the name of the arrow/broadhead (was using my father's setup since it was much easier on my torn rotator cuff). The shot was between 18-20 yards away and he only traveled about 150 yards before going down (went over the small ridge I was hunting on and crashed down in the bottom on the other side).

I've never been Elk hunting, but I've always heard they have a knack of falling dead at the bottom of a deep ravine at least two BIG hills and a wide meadow away from camp.  Congratulations!!
