Hi all, my wife got me a Browning A-bolt last year for Christmas in the 7mm WSM.  Sweet gun, but no scope yet. Plan on getting one soon with Christmas money. Will probably use it out west in the years to come doing some Elk hunting or possibly Mule Deer.  I know I want a Leupold scope. But not sure on what power to get.  What Leupold should I get for the most "bang for the buck?"  Variable? No variable?  Long time hunter but never really used a scope.  No rifle hunting in Illinois and never really had a scope on my shotguns.  Any advice is great. Thanks......

Leupold VX-II or I if that is to much then the Rifleman.
For power 3-9x40.

We have the VXII 3-9x50 on a 338 and a 45/70.
Clear optics and holds up to the recoil.

I use a 7mm rem mag and went with the leupold VX-II 3-9 x 40 with the long range dots.

It has served me well and it didn't break the bank.

Hey, thanks guys. What kind of yardage am I looking at with these scopes and the 7mm WSM round.  Out to 400?  More or less?

If you haven't shot a rifle much go find a range with at least 300 yrds.
Try and shoot as much as you can afford at that range.
We have gotten moose at 500 to 600 yrds but that was with a lot of practice.
We were using a 338 and 300 win mag.
That 7mm wsm is a very nice round though.

So practice practice  practice.

Yeah, not much rifle shooting except for an AR at short distances.  Plenty of shotgun shooting out to 75-100 yards but that is with open sights. I plan to practice plenty. Just need to get a good scope setup.

Are the scopes listed above considered fix or variable power?  This is confusing me for whatever reason. Thanks....

3x9 is the power 40 is the size of the objective.
No problem on the questions.

in the "reasonably priced" scope category, i've had good luck with leupold vari-x / vx ii and burris fullfield

My scope will for sure be a Leupold.  Been looking at the one you mentioned.
