Any of you folks live in WA state and keep tabs on the Western WA elk problems? I heard down South for the Packwood herd they're having meetings and thinking of releasing cow tags.
I'm hoping they'll do the same for North Bend a bit. We're starting to see some elk problems here as the herds are growing too large, and it's going to start getting faster. |

I have heard the same thing about them releasing more Cow tags.
I am sure I can find out more as a couple of my employees (and buddies) are BIG TIME hunters and hunt elk every year in the Packwood area. I'll see what I can find out from them and if I get any new info I'll pass it alone. |

Quoted:
Wait until the wolves begin to move north from Oregon and west from Idaho. My son guides in the Frank Church of Idaho and hates the wolves. He said it makes the elk hunting very difficult. The elk are not as vocal and don't spend much time in the open. He also said the wolves are getting braver around camp and following the stock when packing out game. |

So I talked to my buddy today that knows about the Packwood heard and he said that they are going to make two new zones that are 1mile north and 1 mile south of the existing Packwood hunting zone (sorry I am not informed enough to know that zone numbers, he gave them to me but I was not able to write them down)
In those two new zones they are going to be releasing cow tags. My buddy said the heard is huge and that it does need to be thined out a bit for better survival. The bad thing he said about the new zones is that a lot of the land in the there is private. I hoped that info helps... Bottom line is that yes they are going to be having more cow tags out. |
