Spent a lot last year on the tubes, so I decided to try them myself.

Bought a 32oz bottle of Permethrin and cotton balls.  I've been saving toilet and paper towel tubes.

So, what I've read says to spray the cotton balls and let them air dry.  Then stuff the tubes...  Is it that simple?

Thanks

Maybe dip or coat the tubes with wax/paraffin before stuffing for weatherproofing?

My  experience with Peremthin sucked. The ticks in our neighborhood seems to enjoy bathing in it, then crawling up your pant leg  in a sprint to attach to your scrotum.

Excellent topic.

Have been planning this myself and am past due to start.  I think it is just as simple as you describe.  My idea was to follow one of the many tutorials for self-treatment of cotton clothes -which has worked very well for me previously.

For those not familiar, the treated cotton is grabbed by mice making their nests and the permethrin kills the earlier ticks.

The major websites recommend treating in late April and again in the fall.  This kind of confused me because the ticks are already out...  I think I'm going to go ahead and set the first batch out next week..

Anyone know what a good concentration would be?   Some say 10% others 1%...

The bottle comes as 36.8%

Thanks

Given that you are treating mice vs pets and the exposure is secondary to dried treated bedding,  I would favor stronger vs weaker concentrations..

10% is what I would use.
