Spring must be here, found my first latched on tick of the new year - a lone star. Didn't want to turn loose of my calf & left me with a kinda angry looking bite...

Throw it in a ziplock, and toss it in the freezer.

If you get a funky local reaction to the bite, or get fever/ Chills,/aches in the next couple of weeks, head to the doc, and take the Tic with you.

Lyme isn't the only crud the bastards cause.

Yep, I contracted Alpha-gal allergy via a lone star (deer) tick bite last year. Delayed food allergy to beef, pork, and lamb.

Buddy of mine got Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from a dog tick in NY.  He was a sick puppy for a while!

I hate those things.  I don't seem to get them where our property is, I don't know if having a large wild turkey population helps, or what, but so far I haven't seen any.

Yeah, we have to be vigilant around here. The wife tested positive for both lymes & rocky mountain fever last year and get a fairly protracted treatment.

Lots of wildlife around here, nightly visits from deer, racoon, possum, etc. Turkey, squirrel, chipmunk, etc. during the day. Most of our 4.5 acres is wooded. Thinking about trying the treated cotton nesting material that you distribute via little wax covered cardboard tube sections. Small critters that are intermediate vectors use it in their nests & it kills immature ticks before their final molt.

Found my first deer tick of the year on Tuesday (WI).  Don't know where I picked that little fucker up; I took a shower that morning and was only outside on pavement to get in and out of truck.

Pretty sure they just fall out of the sky...

I went camping earlier in the week when it was warmer here and kind of expected to come across a few, but didn't.  They really only seem bad up here on the mountain in the spring/early summer.

I saw two dead snakes on the road the other day when I was fishing back in Smoke Hole. Snowing today though.

MI has been bad the last few years I heard. The ticks are already bad this year. Mice, rats, yotes, rabbits, deer and squirrels carry them nasty ticks around. Ticks live sand and sandboxes.

Heavy Red oak and Hickory mast crop last year, with a huge mouse and Vole population explosion.
I have never seen so many FAT Fox and 'yotes..and still went through 6 buckets of rodent blocks.
They are bad here, and we also have a flock of 9 wild turkeys that work over the lawn and woods. We need Guineas.

As soon as I can, I'm hitting the perimeter of the woodlot with Carbaryl.

We've found three deer ticks (black legged) here in central MN, none attached. The first was a couple weeks ago when there was still patches of snow on the ground. A friend had one that was attached and is on a round of antibiotics. Damn things.

Got a dog tick about two weeks ago.

All I did was pull to the side of the driveway, near the grassy bank, so we could move another car out.

Got out of the van in the higher grass and a few hours later, tickle tickle tickle.

Got it before it attached to the personal bits where they're OH SO FUN to remove.
