| A few chickens are now sitting on eggs and refuse to get off. A few eggs have shown blood spots already. Any hints, tips or advise. I have been pulling the chickens off by hand to get the eggs. |
Every single one of mine go into "broody hotel" for 72 hours. They will stop listening to the voices in their head, act like ladies again, and be less dinosaur like.
*Broody Hotel can be a plastic or metal portable dog kennel or if your real fancy a real bird cage with a pull out poop tray. Add a small water bowl and a tiny bit of feed, no more than you want to remove at the end. Put her/them away from the other girls and make it as cool as possible. I just put mine in the A/C shop this time of year. Works like a charm. Letting it go just makes it worse...Just be gentle but firm in dealing with them. They're just trying harder to be mothers... |

hey, as long as you have a rooster and they are fertile eggs, let them go
broody's make way better mothers, you don't have to do anything (but cull the 50% that become roosters) and you will have little chicks totally socialized, etc in 12 weeks or so. we usually stick a few extra under them as long as we catch them in the first day and, we give them a separate place to be broody (so the other hens don't come in and disturb the eggs. |
