I have been stung by the Honey Bee hobby and plan on starting soon. I have read up on the Warre, the Top Bar and the Langstroth. It looks like I will start off with a
couple Langstroth hivesfor my country place with later on a top bar at my current home. The top bar will have a glass viewing to show the grandkids whats going on
inside of a beehive. Plan on building all my own hiveboxes. For your bee keepers what type of hive you use?

Langstroth - it's pretty easy to manage and works well if you want to harvest honey. Dadant.com also makes and sells equipment at a reasonable price. Good luck!

OP, I have two nucs on order and I'm going to pickup 2 hive kits from my local bee guy (who's getting the nucs) tomorrow. I've heard from the local club and from my mentor that it's best to start out with two hives and nucs instead of boxes of bees because they will get a head start with the brood in the nucs.

Langs.  I have tried the top bar and I don't see the advantage.

I built my first box today. A 8 frame deep box. I had a skill saw and a hand held router. No problems cutting/routing, it is just the 1x12 #2pine was not flat.
Came out all right except I made it a little too small to fit the frame in. I was lucky to be able to borrow a frame to check fit and the next bunch of boxes should be a 1/4" to 1/2"
bigger. I am making 2 sizes the deep and the mediums but all will be 8 frames. Looks like the Langs will be my main type of hives but I still want to build one Topbar.

Read up on "bee space" and use correct dimensions. Google box sizes for 8 frame. All I use is 10.

For some reason I had a 11" inside dimension on my brain when I built 3 boxes. Well I guess one of my hives will be a
7 frame. Gonna name it Lucky 7 . I will pick up some more lumber and start over again.
