So I started a little garden for the first time this year. 8' x 8'.  Have tomatoes, squash, peppers, eggplant, peas etc.  Have something eating the leaves of the eggplant, basil and a few other things.  Anything I can do to get rid of the bugs?  My wife is pregnant so I'm looking for something that would be pretty safe.

We use lawn crystels around the edge. But check with your local county extention agent too.

It depends on the kind of pests.  I suggest you pick up a copy of the book "The Vegetable Gardener's Bible" (2nd Edition).  Check out the section starting on page 158 called "Controlling pests the natural way."  If you go to Amazon you can "look inside" and read a few pages of this section.  They discuss how to attract beneficial insects (aka pest predators) starting on page 165.  There are some other strategies too.
