So the temps have finally made up their mind here in Phx and we are only getting to start getting hotter.  I have grass in the front and back yard now.  The front looks GREAT.  I havent done anything special to it.  the back.. ehh.  Id say 70% is grass, but its thin in most areas and  then some spots its just dead/dirt.  How should i go about just redoing *over seeding* the grass to have it all come in?   I already cut the grass as short as i could today and have watered alittle more the normal so i can get a metal claw type rake in there.  I figured I would rake up the loser ground just to air-rate it.   throw the seed down and the lawn seed on top of it and water again.  And of course water it like crazy.  anything im missing?

Wait till September. Trying to get new grass to grow going into the summer, especially the type of summers you get in AZ, is futile.

For now, just aerate and adopt a fertilizer schedule for the year. Come fall, when the weather cools down, rent a slice seeder and apply starter fertilizer.
