Just toured our remote home in the hills that we are buying and there were a lot of scorpions in a few of the rooms. ( modern home)They had little paper traps around. My wife almost freaked out and said I would be there alone if that wasn't fixed. Has anyone dealt with dealing with scorpions? I have the exterminator coming tomorrow for the termite inspection and I am sure he will have a solution but was hoping for some encouragement here.

Some are good, some are bad.

Learn to distinguish the two classes.

Form new habits with clothing and shoes.

Buy a UV flashlight and go hunting in the dark. The little buggers fluoresce.

Figure out what spawn of satin you have. Some of them are pokie and very poisonous. Others are like a bee sting.

Get a good mouse cat. Or six.
Mouse sticky traps. 87 of them. Two on the base of every wall.
Don't put your shoes on the floor. Hook the laces on a coat hook.
Call a pro exterminator. Pay that damn money. Pest maintenance contracts is cheaper than a divorce lawyer. Promise.

No worries, they fry up nicely.  They have a slightly nutty flavor, just watch out for the sharp stinger.  Don't poke the roof of your mouth.

Darn glad we don't have those things on the Hoth System (ND)!

When in AZ for a while, it was important to implement new habits...  Shaking out shoes & clothes before putting them on, don't leave towels or other things on the floor, etc...  Saw one crawl up the wall, another was under a wash rag left on the bathroom floor.

If you have chickens running around, you will soon have a hard time finding scorpions.

Down here in the Texas hill country we go through scorpion season every year.  They don't bother me, rather deal with them then coach roaches.  I usually just spray once a month inside and out, put out diatomaceous earth, and keep the house sealed up and it keeps them to a minimum.

Wife hates them but she is learning to deal.  All in all the are just a small nuisance.  But you will never be able to get ride of them, just manage their presence.

Thank you all. Had a good exterminator out today and got a plan. Going to get chickens too.

I have chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, and guineas.  most modern poisons do not impact a scorpion at all.  you pretty much have to directly spray the ones around here or they just shrug it off.  The birds do a 100 times better than chemical warfare.

I live in scorp country.  I have glue traps outside of all doors that lead to the inside and 4 cats.  I was stung once by an Arizona Bark Scorpian (the most dangerous in NA) and it was not fun.  The cats destroy any scorp that gets passed the glue traps.

GOATS will ravage scorpions. Not joking, destroy them.

Make sure no grass is growing up the side of your house or into your walling. You should be able to clearly see foundation around your entire house. Otherwise bust out the weed whacker and get that stuff under control.

Re-do all weather stripping on doors.

SPIDERS ARE GOOD DO NOT KILL THEM AS THEY KILL THE SCORPIONS

Teach your wife about scorpions, let her deal with a couple. They aren't crazy, they don't jump, evil does not spew from their bodies. They are small insects, nothing more.

If you have scorpions, it could be a sign that you are prone to 1 other insect that you SHOULD be worried about.....CENTIPEDES. Terminate all centipedes on sight immediately.

Scorpions come and go, like summer and winter. They tend to be seasonal.

Wood floors are great, they tend to keep scorpions on the walls because they are too cool. Brown wood floors are terrible, because you will step on a scorpion eventually.

You can hire all the exterminators you want....they are nothing more than a temporary solution to scorpions. Goats, chickens, and a moat of Demon WP are your real ammo.

Very good advice thank you! I am really playing it down for the wife but since she knows I crawl through the bush for a firing position and I don't freak out over all the stuff crawling around with me so she is a tough sell. I know what you mean about the centipedes, I saw one in western OK that was knarly, and real big. At first glance I thought it was a snake. I think goats are in the future too.

I killed my first one for this year earlier today... He was about 6' up the side of a 10' cardboard box in our barn. DRT

We are in the same boat. I just had an exterminator come out last week. We haven't seen any since, but I'm still reminding everyone to be wary with shoe and clothes. Gonna by some Demon WP this weekend and hose down our foundation.
Also curious as to how the Demon might affect pets and chickens?
