I am looking to get a zero turn mower.   I want a good qualty mower that isnt going to wear out in the next five years.  I dont  really want to spend more than 4k on one and would prefer one a lttle cheaper.  Looking for one with at least a 48" deck.  Any suggestions, or ones to stay away from? personal experience with them preferred if you are giving advise

looks like that model has been discontinued, i am looking at buying a new one.  i have looked at the new JD models, which i would actually prefer, and they do seem pretty good

From my experience mowing comercially for 6 years I would stay away from the JD. I have tested some and the deck is a stamped sheet metal vs. welded as in other quality mowers.  I would try to find a used commercial mower.  Many brands will hold up to light use for a very long time.  Some brands I would recomend would be Dixie Chopper, Scag, Hustler, Gravely, Grass Hopper, and Bad Boy mowers seem to also be a good light duty mower.  Also a commercial walk behind with a standing platform cut very nice if thats part of your goal.

Specifically, look for a used low hour Tiger Cub. I see them on Craigslist in the $4-$5k range fairly often. We had one and it was pretty much bulletproof. Great little machine.

For what the OP wants to spend he'll get a lot more mower out of the used market than buying ANYTHING new. Sad to say, but $4k doesn't buy much in terms of a new ZTR.

I have a Husqvarna 6128. I bought it last year and really like it. And they are built in South Carolina another plus.

We have a Kubota ZT28 with a 54 inch deck. The mower does a fine job. However, new will be almost 2x your budget. They are giving us 5k for a used 3 year old machine with 250 hrs towards a new machine.

after doing some research, I have found a company called bad boy mowers, their mowers seem to be built better than some of the other bigger residential brands, and they are about the same price if not cheaper, hope to go check one out this week

I bought a used Scag Tiger 48" with Kawasaki engine last year.  I really like it so far.
