| I am looking to get a zero turn mower. I want a good qualty mower that isnt going to wear out in the next five years. I dont really want to spend more than 4k on one and would prefer one a lttle cheaper. Looking for one with at least a 48" deck. Any suggestions, or ones to stay away from? personal experience with them preferred if you are giving advise |
| From my experience mowing comercially for 6 years I would stay away from the JD. I have tested some and the deck is a stamped sheet metal vs. welded as in other quality mowers. I would try to find a used commercial mower. Many brands will hold up to light use for a very long time. Some brands I would recomend would be Dixie Chopper, Scag, Hustler, Gravely, Grass Hopper, and Bad Boy mowers seem to also be a good light duty mower. Also a commercial walk behind with a standing platform cut very nice if thats part of your goal. |

scag Specifically, look for a used low hour Tiger Cub. I see them on Craigslist in the $4-$5k range fairly often. We had one and it was pretty much bulletproof. Great little machine. For what the OP wants to spend he'll get a lot more mower out of the used market than buying ANYTHING new. Sad to say, but $4k doesn't buy much in terms of a new ZTR. |
