We too just embarked on the back yard chicken adventure.
Our first eggs were tiny also. Double yolks looked like yours. Started laying 3 weeks ago. We are battling soft shells and peckers pecking the eggs, not eating, just pecking. We had just started to give them oyster shell to help the eggs, and put in a couple stone eggs in the nesting box to help pecking. We are getting at a min 6 eggs a day from 8 golden comets. |
| mine started laying about a month ago. my 2 easter eggers are laying good. one of my golden comets is laying big browns, but the other 3 golden's still aren't laying lol. its driving me crazy since they are all the same age. i'm thinking they may not be laying in the coupe and may be hoarding them somewhere. not sure though. i've looked at all there spots where they hang out to no avail though so i think they may just be late bloomers or something. |
| I'm still waiting on mine to start earning their keep. They're about 21 weeks so I've been checking every day for a new egg. They'll probably start laying their eggs in the yard along the fence where they spend most of their time so I'll probably have to keep them in the coop during the prime egg laying time. |
| I'm finally averaging about four a day from my five birds. They eggs aren't as large as the last set of birds I had. More of a medium than an extra large. Hopefully they'll get bigger. The first few weeks were so small we couldn't do anything with them but scramble them. |
