What are the pros/cons or likes/dislikes of the dfferent kinds of rice available for your long-term storage needs?

Going to Sams Club soon and I remember them having several varieties of Rice, which I know nothing about.

Jasmine rice is my favorite, but I am not sure they carry it at Sam's, at least not locally. I get it by the 20lb bag in the asian food section of walmart.

If you have an asian grocery nearby, you might check  there both for price, freshness,  and variety.

The only thing I eat is different varieties of brown. I like brown basmati best, but it's quite expensive. What I have in semi long-term storage (5ish years) is basic brown long-grain.

(FWIW, If you put brown rice in Mylar with an O2 absorber, you can get pretty good storage out of it, though not as good as white. Oil goes rancid in the presence of oxygen, so remove the oxygen and you can dramatically slow down the rate at which it goes rancid. I just opened a Mylared bag of brown that I stored in '97; it's just fine.)

I usually prefer jasmin over basmati, but basmati does have its uses. Now a 2/1 jasmin/basmati mix is fantastic!
