I have done some searching and can't verify if common, unroasted peanuts you by at the store are "heirloom" seeds. Does anybody know? There are some places selling seed but other stories of folks planting peanuts they buy at the grocery store.

There is no way to know.  Why not just buy what you want from a seed company?

$5 for an ounce of peanuts seems excessive.

Note:  I have not ordered from the above company.  If you do order from them, please let us know how it goes.  They seem to have much better prices on heirloom seeds than a lot of other places.

We raise peanuts.  I doubt that peanuts bought in the store are heirloom.  Most farmers are planting the newest varieties, which are generally bred for better yields, better disease resistance, etc.  I am sure that someone somewhere is still raising them, but I doubt that randomly bought peanuts would be.
