Are reel mowers as good as I hear?  I keep hearing that they cut neater and cleaner than a gasoline push mower.

I belive they do offer a better quality of cut. They don't handle taller grass as well though.

We have a couple manual reel mowers––they'll give you a workout.

The workout part would be good for me.  I have an '84 Wheel Horse Workhorse if I get lazy, but I was thinking about the summer and wondering why I had two push mowers.  I thought about selling them and getting a reel.

Thanks for the input!

I had a Husqvarna for a few years. 22" cut, I think. I don't have a bunch of grass, so when my gas mower died, I saw a deal on base for the reel mower and decided to try it out. I loved the way it cut grass. It took about 2-3 times as long to cut the same amount of grass, so plan on longer times. You can't rush it - it'll skip & you have tufts of grass left behind. Long grass - it doesn't like that at all.

If you stay on top of it, cut every week, and don't rush - you'll have a gorgeous looking lawn.

The arms that connected to the base of the mower are a weak spot. I replaced mine twice, at which point I'd spent on replacement parts the same as I paid for the mower.

I now own a Honda-powered Toro gas mower and it rocks.
