I just bought some pork bellies to smoke for bacon,I was wondering if anybody has used mulberry for smoking bacon?
I saw a post where someone used it,and thought that since I can't kill the damn things maybe the would be useful for makin bacon.

I don't recall anybody talking about using mulberry for smoking bacon. I may have missed that.

We smoke bacon once a year when we do our pigs and I'd frankly be afraid to try mulberry just because we'd have to live with the results for the rest of the year. I have a mulberry tree about 30' from where we run the smoker so......give it a try! Report back! See if it's any good.

Maybe I'll cut a chunk off and do a small sample. The post might have been in GD,but the guy said he used mulberry for smoking, not specifically bacon.

Hell, give it a whirl. I'd love to hear what results you get. If it's successful it would give me something to do with that darn mulberry tree.

Bourbon soaked hickory chips?  Is it worth wasting the bourbon?
Sounds great, but just wondering if cost effective.

not my chips.  my buddy brought them.  not sure what they cost if anything for him.  it did smell damn fine while it was smoking, actually could smell the bourban in the smoke.  today we did 14 pounds of pork butt with the same chip combo.

after 8 hours on the smoker, internal temp of 190.

pulled pork goodness

What temp did you smoke the bacon at? I am going to do one this weekend. I was thinking that 200 was too much so maybe 175.

Thanks

we did 200 for 5 hours( 11 pounds of belly).  some will say that's probably too long, but it came out awesome.  we had it sliced up afterwards on a deli meat slicer.  some tasty bacon for sure.
