I just bought some pork bellies to smoke for bacon,I was wondering if anybody has used mulberry for smoking bacon?
I saw a post where someone used it,and thought that since I can't kill the damn things maybe the would be useful for makin bacon. |

I don't recall anybody talking about using mulberry for smoking bacon. I may have missed that.
We smoke bacon once a year when we do our pigs and I'd frankly be afraid to try mulberry just because we'd have to live with the results for the rest of the year. I have a mulberry tree about 30' from where we run the smoker so......give it a try! Report back! See if it's any good. |

Maybe I'll cut a chunk off and do a small sample. The post might have been in GD,but the guy said he used mulberry for smoking, not specifically bacon. Hell, give it a whirl. I'd love to hear what results you get. If it's successful it would give me something to do with that darn mulberry tree. |

What temp did you smoke the bacon at? I am going to do one this weekend. I was thinking that 200 was too much so maybe 175. Thanks Chinook3 we did 200 for 5 hours( 11 pounds of belly). some will say that's probably too long, but it came out awesome. we had it sliced up afterwards on a deli meat slicer. some tasty bacon for sure. |
