With the budget getting tighter & taxes going up, yet again, we've decided that home cooked meals are more important than ever.
I've started acquiring more cutlery & some good quality pots & pans.
Not cheap by any means but the way I see it, buy a high quality pan or knife & you will use it the rest of your life.
There is a culinary store the next town over that has outstanding pieces but nothing to make my own bread.
Is it really that difficult to make ones own bread?
What would I need  besides yeast & grain?
Are there any "Must Haves" when it comes to buying Kitchen equipment?

The way I see it, the more I can cook & grow my own Garden, the more money I will be able to save to buy important items or keep the shelves stocked with canned goods, ammo, or medical supplies.

bread can be simple.....flour, sugar, salt, yeast, milk, butter, sour dough starter.....

a "Kitchen Aid"  mixer is a great peice of equipment.

Find a "Pampered Chef" sales person.....quality stuff.....be selective.....their can opener is pretty good....I like their measuring cups....baking stones......etc

some of their stuff isn't worth the price.....but carry a good warrenty.

cuisinart food processor is one that I won't live without again. After using many others this one is by far the best for under $200 I have used. I am going to be adding a small pressure cooker to my kitchen for cooking rice, beans etc... Won't go anywhere without my cast iron skillet or wok.

Remember, the garden only lasts so long for fresh vegetables. You really need to invest in canning and preservation supplies; water bath pot, pressure canner; canning utensils, jars, rings and lids. You also need to keep a good supply of white vinegar, canning salts, etc. A dehydrator is also a bonus. Frankly, jars and ammo.........you can't have enough.

Bread is a snap, Lay in a bunch of Bisquick, flour, yeast, baking soda, salt, etc. You can make bread and biscuits in a dutch oven and Coleman makes a propane oven.

If you like coffee, get a perculator for when the power is off.

Grow an herb garden and dry the herbs.
