I have four sweet banana pepper plants, & was wondering if the peppers will get hot if left on the plant too long? I ask cause they have some heat to them, almost like a Hungarian Wax pepper.

I am wondering if the tag in the 4 pack of plants inadvertently got switched at the store or greenhouse with a Hungarian Wax? If so I am gonna have Wax peppers coming out of my ears, cause I have 4 of them too.

The bananas will not get hot, just sweeter as they turn orange and then red. The Hungarians on the other hand stay hot as they mature. I really like hot things but the Hungarians are almost too hot.

you like hot things but you think the wax peppers are almost too hot!?  We just eat them by themselves, I've never really thought they were hot at all.  Banana peppers will not get hot though, if you are sensing a little heat they could have been mixed up

That's kinda what I thought, but wanted some confirmation of it.

Damn, & I wanted some sweet peppers too.

I pulled three Hungarian Wax out of my sweet bannana pepper patch in the last week that were mislabled. The HW peppers are great de-seeded and cooked a little heat but a lot of flavor. Run them through the food processor after a light blanch and store in the freezer in small ammounts. Makes for a nice kick to cooking during the winter months that adds a lot of flavor.

I usually just chop the tops off them & chop the rest whole, seeds & all, for making salsa. I will deseed some for cooking too now that I will have an over abundance of them.

Just had my heart set on sweet banana peppers this year. Now I will have to buy some at the farmer's markets.
