How long with basmati rice last, and plain white flour, if kept in a cool, dry place?

They are NOT currently being stored in oxygen free buckets...

So where is the best place to get those round, sealable buckets would be my next question...

Thanks,

Michael

A few months to years. The main concern will be bugs.

Why not store it in O2 free buckets?

ETA: If you want new buckets, I saw them on sale at home depot the other day for $2 and change. There are several sources where you can get them used for free (bakery, etc). But they will need to be cleaned out.

Store the rice in mylar bags with O2 absorbers, then just use the buckets to hold the filled bags.

A lot of people freeze their rice for about 3 days for long term storage. I do and never had any bugs.
I also put a bay leaf in my large container of flour. had one 50# bag's worth last about 5 years one time. Still made good dough.

I have Basmati rice that was stored ten years in gallon ziplock bags, placed into a clean sheetrock compound bucket.

No purging of oxygen, no oxygen absorbers, no mylar.
It was frozen for a few days before storage.
Stored in a dry cool basement.

We're eating it now. No problem.

I'm not saying it is the best way to store rice, or even the correct way.
Just relating a personal experience.

Edit for spelling.
