This is a perennial problem.

I've at least two families or clans of moles tunneling up my yard and threatening my square foot gardens. I put chicken wire under one new box (a brilliant idea if I don't say so myself) but not under the rest as that would require huge amounts of digging up already settled dark soil...

so.

How deep do those critters burrow? It'd be significantly easier to trench around the whole garden and drop in stones or 2x8s to a depth of 1 foot or so.

I'm also gonna kill all the grubs in a month or so but in the mean while....

I have seen them dig 18" deep.

Go buy some mole traps.  Trapping is the most effective method for mole management.

I trap moles for a living (along with other animals).

The front yard of my apartment complex looks like it is tilled for farming.... I have been curious about how to get rid of moles as well...

I came home the other day to see about 150' of fresh mole tunnel. I followed it to the end and sure enough the bastard was moving along and digging up my yard. I ran in the garage and grabbed a large screwdriver, dead mole and I haven't seen any others yet. When I had problems years ago I used the above ground spring loaded mole spikes of death, they worked pretty well.
