I'd like to know has anyone out there tried this stuff? How is it taste wise and what company did you buy it from and would you buy more of it?

I ask this cause my wife and I thought this would be a good way from time to time make meal out of cause my two boys love there meat but hate there veggies. If we like it we where also looking to add some to are food storage.

In everyday life it tastes good.  Not as good as a steak, but good.

In STHF it would be fantastic and you would wish you had more.  After about 200 loaves of whole wheat bread and 300 bowls of oatmeal from you storeroom you will be craving something different.  (I know, I worked for 5 years in a survival program)  TVP will be really great at that point in time.

Buy a can and try it.  Lots of budget food places use it.

Textured Vegitable Protien.  A protien that will take the taste of whatever you do with it.  Very versitile and a GREAT thing to have a lot of.

The stuff isn't bad ... but it's not "good" either.

Best used in things like sloppy joes, pizza, and omelets. I've got sausage and pepperoni flavored TVP stashed along with canned pizza sauce and dough packages.

Gotta' second that.  It's pretty good as a "flavoring" in stuff, but on it's own not so great.  The bacon TVP really helps out powdered eggs.  I tried the sausage one in a calzone, not too bad.  It's cheap and stores well, so I have a bunch of it for when the dehydrated pork chops run out .

honestly the best place to find it is at a Food Co-op or anywhere else you can buy bulk quantities locally.  I prefer plain TVP, and then flavoring it myself with whatever I want it taste like at the time.  It is best for stuff like sloppy joes and the like though.
