| I have some microwave stuff but my microwave is a POS and either burns it or it don't pop. So how do you make this stuff? Same as popcorn just add sugar instead of salt? |

Perfect Kettle corn. Start with this popper (or similar) www.amazon.com/Wabash-Valley-Farms-25008-Whirley-Pop/dp/B00004SU35 Add 1/3 cup good popcorn Add 3Tbs Canola Oil Add 4Tbs White sugar Put on heat.. Turn crank until popping completes (about 2 mins.. give or take heat) Remove. Pour in bowl. Salt lightly. Enjoy. |

| In a SHtF scenario, if you like pop corn(and who doesn't?), I bet that Jiffy Pop would be a great morale booster. Who wouldn't get a lift from the great smell of the fresh pop corn when your spirits are down. You could pop that stuff on a Coleman or portable backpack hiking camp stove(be careful the heat is uneven so you have to move it around to keep it from burning the pop corn). I've never tried it, but would bet that you could even pop it over a camp fire, it would be tougher on a camp fire because the heat from a camp fire would be tremendous uneven. The bonus would be that Jiffy Pop popcorn requires no refrigeration, so if you end up at the Super Dome, you can still make if you brought your hiking stove. |
warlord, whose microwave popcorn are you using that has cholesterol? If there is no animal fat used, there is no cholesterol. What you may have meant is there is too much saturated fat! Tropical oils like coconut and palm oils have no cholesterol but do have some saturated fat – however, not near as much as that hamburger you just ate! |
Still I can't stand the smell of popping microwave pop corn |

IMO, microwave popcorn is pure crap! I've never liked it, especially the butter flavored junk. Give me real popcorn from the stove top any day. Something else to think about with microwave popcorn is the additives and "flavorings" in the bag. It's never tasted natural to me and it turns out is quite toxic to workers who make the stuff. Popcorn (microwave) may cause lung disease Doctor Links a Man’s Illness to a Microwave Popcorn Habit Something to think about, especially if you have kids that eat this crap regularly. |

The sucky thing is that it seems to be getting harder to find popping kernals that aren't in those damn microwave bags. Most stores in my area only have the Orville Redenbacher brand. Some no longer have a generic store brand in the stovetop pan kind. Last night was butter, salt, confectionary sugar and a touch of cinnimon. A nice change to normal butter and salt. |

![]() Probably good for SHtF too but I've never tried to Jiffy Pop on a back packing stove, such as a MSR Whisperlite. The company definitely recommends against doing in a camp fire because of uneven heat, but I bet with a little practice it can be done. |
I have it on good authority that an interested party can secure a rather large supply of popping kernels from such bulks outlets as Sam's Club and its ilk. |
