Hello all........looking for a good food dehydrator.  I will mostly use it for fruits and jerky.

I was looking at these

Any experiences??  Thanks!

Nothing wrong with those... but I use my oven for jerky mostly.

Set on "Warm" with the door slightly cracked. Works great.

I have an American Harvest.  It runs great for me.  I do Jerky and Fruits in it.  Haven't had an issue yet.

I just got a 9 tray Excalibur.  About 15 square feet of rack area and thermostatically controlled.  Around $200.  Really happy with it.

so far, I have dried apples, pears, cantelope, bananas, seedless grapes, blueberries, rasberries, strawberries, mangos, cherry tomatoes, carrot slices, orange slices and yogurt (wierd but good)  and about 25 pounds of beef..

I've had it about a week.

By comparison to my old generic round top Walmart dryer, this is in a class head and shoulders above. No babysitting it, switching trays from top to bottom.  Although I did find useful to rotate the tray 180 degrees about halfway as the food closest to the fan/heater dries quicker

I have the Nesco FD75 I believe. It's the step up in wattage from the one pictured above in this thread. It dries evenly and I'm very happy with it. I know  agirl who does back country cooking classes and uses it exclusivley. She swears by them and does this for a living.

I make tomato powder (very useful!), banana chips, dried veggies for soups and stews and I'm working on a batch of stroganoff to dry up to take with me backpacking. I'll dry spices, apples, pepared chili and tons of other stuff.
