Are Clif Bars and other similar food products in any way storeable in hot conditions, such as in the trunk of a car in a GHB? I'd like to add a few of these in light of their size and weight vs. MRE's, but I'm curious if I'd end up with an envelope full of goo when I needed it. Thanks. |

I keep a box of Clif bars in my car. When I lived in Texas, they survived the 140+ temps in the car just fine. They get a little squishy and sticky, but not messy. The main reason I went with Clif bars was because they dont really melt OR freeze, they just get firmer or softer. I have eaten them from 30 degrees to 145 degrees, and they were always edible. The ones with chocolate chips can get a bit messy. I really like the Clif bars. They kept me going at work if I had to skip or delay my normal lunch. Take 5 minutes to eat a Clif bar and grab some water, and I was good for 3 more hours. With about 12 flavors available, you are bound to find a few that work for you. EDIT: I had very bad luck with powerbars, and all the other protein bars I tried. They all turned into a gooey inedible mess when hot. Avoid anything with a chocolate coating too, another freakin mess there. The soft granola bars tend to get super sticky when hot, but are still edible. |

I'll second this post. They last quite a long time and can get hard, but are still edible. Even the ones with chips aren't too bad (regarding melting) as there are not a ton of them. Most the time you'll find them on sale for $.99 I just got some at CVS for $.77 on sale. They are the best tasting I've found, and I've tried a bunch of brands. |

Clif bars are the best tasting "power" bar I've tried and I have had good luck with them in the truck even in the Georgia summer. The downside is a pretty short shelf life of about nine months although I have eaten them a year past expiration and lived to tell the tale. I just bought some at our local Walmart for $5.49 a six pack. |

I keep several in a gallon Ziplock freezer bag, in the BOB, in the back of the truck. This batch has been in there for about 6 months and we have had a hot summer. A quick "press check" showed they there was definite squishability but they've since reconstituted. I love the peanut butter and the chocolate chip ones and tend to snack on them regularly - haven't paid too close attention to the local prices but I *think* they were $19 for a 24-pack at Costco. Hadn't thought of the spork thing. Might give that a go. |

I also carry Cliff Bars because they are one of the few bars that combine decent taste and texture while not being subject to melting. I work outside in the Tucson / S. AZ heat and have never had a Cliff Bar melt If you're a Costco member (or know one) they were selling the 24 bar variety packs for $18 and change when I was there last Sunday. |
