Are Clif Bars and other similar food products in any way storeable in hot conditions, such as in the trunk of a car in a GHB?

I'd like to add a few of these in light of their size and weight vs. MRE's, but I'm curious if I'd end up with an envelope full of goo when I needed it.

Thanks.

I keep a box of Clif bars in my car. When I lived in Texas, they survived the 140+ temps in the car just fine. They get a little squishy and sticky, but not messy. The main reason I went with Clif bars was because they dont really melt OR freeze, they just get firmer or softer. I have eaten them from 30 degrees to 145 degrees, and they were always edible.
The ones with chocolate chips can get a bit messy.

I really like the Clif bars. They kept me going at work if I had to skip or delay my normal lunch. Take 5 minutes to eat a Clif bar and grab some water, and I was good for 3 more hours. With about 12 flavors available, you are bound to find a few that work for you.

EDIT: I had very bad luck with powerbars, and all the other protein bars I tried. They all turned into a gooey inedible mess when hot. Avoid anything with a chocolate coating too, another freakin mess there. The soft granola bars tend to get super sticky when hot, but are still edible.

I've heard that cliff bars are the best for said situations, but I have no experiance with them. If i could find some around here, I'd try them out.

Keep a spork in your glove box and your 100% regardless if it goos or not :)
*although Cliff's are not likely too do so.

I like Cliff bars, and I have a bunch stored.  I'm not sure how long they are good for though.

Check walmart, they recently started stocking them back near the powerbars and protein mix stuff.

REI has cliff bars for $1.35 each. that may be cheaper than walmart depending on shipping.

I keep a bunch of cliff bars in my car and, as posted, they deal with temp extremes well. I ate one recently that must have been 2 years old. It was a litte hard, but tasted fine. I get them at Publix, $.99

I'll second this post. They last quite a long time and can get hard, but are still edible. Even the ones with chips aren't too bad (regarding melting) as there are not a ton of them. Most the time you'll find them on sale for $.99 I just got some at CVS for $.77 on sale. They are the best tasting I've found, and I've tried a bunch of brands.

Clif bars are the best tasting "power" bar I've tried and I have had good luck with them in the truck even in the Georgia summer. The downside is a pretty short shelf life of about nine months although I have eaten them a year past expiration and lived to tell the tale.

I just bought some at our local Walmart for $5.49 a six pack.

I keep several in a gallon Ziplock freezer bag, in the BOB, in the back of the truck. This batch has been in there for about 6 months and we have had a hot summer. A quick "press check" showed they there was definite squishability but they've since reconstituted. I love the peanut butter and the chocolate chip ones and tend to snack on them regularly - haven't paid too close attention to the local prices but I *think* they were $19 for a 24-pack at Costco.

Hadn't thought of the spork thing. Might give that a go.

Not sure about the trunk of a car.

But this time of year - especially since I've been working on the roof - I leave Power Bars at home, and take Clif Bars to work.  They hold up much better in the heat.

I also carry Cliff Bars because they are one of the few bars that combine decent taste and texture while not being subject to melting.  I work outside in the Tucson / S. AZ heat and have never had a Cliff Bar melt

If you're a Costco member (or know one) they were selling the 24 bar variety packs for $18 and change when I was there last Sunday.
