While watching the TV last night give the history of Cheese and how its made I found myself thinking that I should have this as part of my food preps. It has 7 times the protein of milk and 40%-50% fat. Important numbers because one will need protein and fat for survival.

So does anyone have any of these cheese rounds in their plans.

No, but I should. I hate milk, never touch the stuff. But I do like cheese and other milk products.

Tastes like styrofoam infused with vanilla extract.

I have some #10 cans of Cheese Blend from Provident Pantry in my storage.  And I've watched a home-ec video on how to make different types of cheese.

I think cheese would be hard to keep in storage unless you froze it.  But, if the power goes out, it won't be a long-term kind of thing.

I think the only way to have a good supply of cheese in a long-term situation would be a milking cow or goat and the knowledge of how to make cheese.

Kraft canned cheese has a good reputation.

I ordered 1 can but I have yet to try it.

Yeah, I forgot about the canned cheese.  DOH!  I've had it at a campout before, also the canned butter from Internet Grocer, and they were both very good.

I was thinking along the line of the type of a cheese wheel. Something that can be carried with you.

This depends on the type of cheese.  Some kinds will keep without refrigeration for months, or years if kept airtight (dip in wax, just like the manufacture does)

I've been screwing around with making my own cheese........have made a bunch of batches of mozzarella thus far......some pretty good, some edible, some.....well.......not so good.

When I get the cheesemaking thing knocked, I'll make a post about it.

Your level of basic domesic-ness leaves me feeling tres inadequate.

You are so damn qualified to mod this forum.

Dude, you are  Martha Stewart.

P.S.  We wanna see your screw ups too.  That way we won't be so intiminadackadated.

Here is a quick question for the cheese makers?

Can you make cheese from powdered milk?

Yes, it can be done. (I've not done it myself as I have a cheap and readily accessible source of raw milk.)

Are you wondering about storing powdered milk for eventually making cheese, or are you having a hard time finding raw milk?

ETA: FWIW, I've never seen anybody claim that cheese from powdered milk turns out as well as cheese from raw milk.

Yup, just looking for one more use for the powdered milk, I can get milk straight from a dairy but was wondering about possibilities.

Thanks
