While watching the TV last night give the history of Cheese and how its made I found myself thinking that I should have this as part of my food preps. It has 7 times the protein of milk and 40%-50% fat. Important numbers because one will need protein and fat for survival. So does anyone have any of these cheese rounds in their plans. |

I have some #10 cans of Cheese Blend from Provident Pantry in my storage. And I've watched a home-ec video on how to make different types of cheese. I think cheese would be hard to keep in storage unless you froze it. But, if the power goes out, it won't be a long-term kind of thing. I think the only way to have a good supply of cheese in a long-term situation would be a milking cow or goat and the knowledge of how to make cheese. |
Yeah, I forgot about the canned cheese. DOH! I've had it at a campout before, also the canned butter from Internet Grocer, and they were both very good. |
This depends on the type of cheese. Some kinds will keep without refrigeration for months, or years if kept airtight (dip in wax, just like the manufacture does) |
Your level of basic domesic-ness leaves me feeling tres inadequate. ![]() ![]() You are so damn qualified to mod this forum. Dude, you are Martha Stewart. Kitties P.S. We wanna see your screw ups too. That way we won't be so intiminadackadated.

Yes, it can be done. (I've not done it myself as I have a cheap and readily accessible source of raw milk.) Are you wondering about storing powdered milk for eventually making cheese, or are you having a hard time finding raw milk? ETA: FWIW, I've never seen anybody claim that cheese from powdered milk turns out as well as cheese from raw milk. |
