SO, I bought a aluminum hydration bottle at WalMart for $4.00 it holds 750ml. It's similar to http://www.amazon.com/Sigg-Lifestyle-1-0-Liters-Aluminum-Transparent/dp/B000R7P7PO/ref=sr_1_1/103-7600583-3715052?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1186950456&sr=1-1 Can I use it to boil water? |
Trial and error, only way to learn, cant survive SHTF if you gotta have ppl holding your hand around every corner. The odds of melting the aluminum is going to be slim to none, jus dont cover it and dont put water too high. NOt that big a deal IMO. Make sure its on a sterdy surface so it doesnt fall over. |

Why would you want to? How are you going to pick it up? What are you going to do with it after the water is boiled? Let it cool in there and then drink it? Where are you going to put it in the mean time? Not in you pack or in a pouch. I think a pot would work better. Or for BOB use a water filter, or an alchohol stove such as the trangia. Just to heat up water for food, cofee, etc., use a canteen cup, or the cup that comes with a Swedish surplus Trangia stove (hint, hint.) Or a steel, etc. cup that Nalgene bottles nest in (comes with handles attached) if you use this form of water carrier. Video of the trangia in use: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsVdEqilF_U Alky Stoves, etc:zenstoves.net/ Great info here, worth the read even if you aren't looking for this solution yet, at some point you will be. |
| Go to Cheaper Than Dirt, see item WX130. It will absolutely do what you want! My bottle is now pitch black, and has boiled creek water for drinking, oatmeal, ramen & coffee on canoe trips many times. Highly recommended! Also, wrapped in a towel it will stay warm most of the night in the foot space of a mummy-bag! Cork has never leaked..... |
