I haven't seen a single honey bee around any of our flowering plants. But I have noticed what seems to be a significant increase in the number of bumble bees. Am I imagining things or has the bumble bee population increased as the number of honey bees has fallen? |
| I haven't seen any bees, wasps, or anything like that around my grapes this year, and last year they loved them. I am in central Iowa, and I can't say as I have had any friends even mention any problems to me this year around here either, usually there are several wasp nests at least that need removal. |
Sad story. I got a service call about some Wasps in a Cable box outside. When I showed up, it was really honey bees that had a big nest in one of our peds (green bullet looking plastic box near the road - cable equipment is in there). I tried to contact some ppl to come and save them, but I couldnt get anyone and the owner said if I didnt do anything about them, he would (so why didnt he in the first place. ) anyways. I opened the ped and used water to destroy the honey comb and chased the bees away, it was better than using pesticides and kill them. I really had hoped to get ahold of someone to come and get them. oh well. There was about 500-1000bees, the honey comb was the size of a small shoe box.

Just hosed down two nests of bald faced hornets 3 ft away from each other 2 days ago. Lots of the stinging critters in my area this year. One nest was the size of a basketball the other one about 1/2 that size. Woulda liked to torch them but they weren't my trees. |

For some reason in the last few days I have had alot of bees around my house , I think some one moved some hives in someplace close . The soybeans are about to bloom and in the past they have placed hives around to help out but I haven't seen the hives yet ! I wish I had a hive or two of my own , I have looked into it but have yet to make the purchace. |
