I've picked up a couple of vacuum packed 2lb bags of rice at Aldi. They come packed in a pretty heavy plastic heat sealed zip lock bag with and oxygen pak. Looks good for long term storage you can pick up a couple every shopping trip rather than spend a wad cash in one shot on buckets and bags. They have both brown and white long grain rice. They sell for a buck and change. I forget the exact price. The nice part is the 2 lb size you don't have to crack open a 5 gal bucket of rice at time.

That is good because that enables you to break open only as much as you will need and no more.  Even though it is more expensive than buying a bulk 25, 50, or 100lb sacks, it is way more convenient especially in an emergency environment.

Be sure to store the rice in a vermin-proof contain container because ant, rats, mice, etc can easily gnaw through anything plastic. I store my SHTF rice & pasta in air-tight old lard sheet metal cans.

Yeah my plan for rice storage is going to be to vacuum seal the rice in portion sizes that match what we would normally eat with a meal now.  Then store them in 5 gal buckets.  That way when we want to rotate through our stock we can just open a portion that we can use and no more.  Also in SHTF we only have to open the ammount we will consume at one sitting.

Keep in mind that brown rice has a much shorter storage time than white.  Something to do with fats in the brown rice going rancid.  I think you may be good for only about a year or so with the brown rice.
