| I have two US issue military chemical suits still in the original packaging from around the 1990's. Does the charcoal break down and become ineffective over time? Are they now useless as protection in NCB (NBC) type emergencies? |

Im assuming they are JSLIST suits? Yes. They have a 5 year shelf life (unopened).

what are you trying to protect yourself from? I have read some interesting informed speculation about a lot of the military NBC type gear that suggests most of it probably would not have worked all that well if there was an actual need to use it. The JSLIST protects the user against liquid/vapor contaminants, and it does that very well. Once contaminated it is disposable and meant to be cut off. Its not a level A/B, easily used with SCBA, or even OSHA compliant for stateside use, but it works for its intended purpose. |
